THE PROBLEM OF ECOLOGY

Урок экологии на английском языке в 8 классе (учебник английского языка English – 8 Т.Д.Кузнецова, П.Г.Козлов).

Тема: THE PROBLEM OF ECOLOGY

Форма урока: урок – деловая игра

Задачи: продолжить работу по теме “Ecology”, изучать лексику по теме, развивать коммуникативную компетентность учащихся, навыки монологической и диалогической речи, формировать навыки чтения и говорения по теме “Ecology/Environment”; воспитывать бережное отношение к природе, экологии, сохранению окружающей среды.

^ Класс: 8 UNIT 2 STEP 9.

Методы и приемы: КСО и ГСО, аудиовизуальный, использование компьютерных технологий, проблемно-поисковый, проектный, ролевая игра.

Пояснение: учащиеся заранее разделены на 3 команды, каждая команда имеет свое название, а участник – эмблему команды и свою «должность». За каждый правильный ответ учитель вкладывает в «банк» заранее заготовленный листок с надписью «10000 тенге». В конце урока команда, набравшая наибольшее количество денег, получает грамоту «Лучшему банку». Остальные команды награждаются грамотами «Самому дружному коллективу банка».

^ Ход урока.

  1. Dear boys and girls! Today we are having a special lesson of English. You won’t be students and I shan’t be your teacher. You are divided into 3 teams, “firms”: BANK NAURYZ, BANK DOSTYK and BANK ASTYK. Now you’ll have to choose those who will be

    1. President

    2. Bank Manager

    3. Secretary

    4. Advertizing Manager

    5. General Manager

So you are “banks” now. The richer bank is the better and more powerful it is considered by its clients. Yor task is to get as much money for your “bank” as it will be possible. And being the Chief Bank System Manager I’ll give you different tasks and shall pay you 10000 tenge if your answer is correct. Ready? Let’s go then!
Our planet is home to a varied collection of animals and plants. They live everywhere: in the high mountains and in the deep seas and oceans, on the green valleys and in the hot deserts. Animals are all around us but today people have done everything possible to make their life more difficult and sometimes impossible.

Now think of the following. Why do we have so many problems of ecology now? Who or what is to blame? What are the main problems? You are given some three minutes to discuss these questions. Then you’ll have to give your answers – one person from each of the three banks.

^ Учащиеся получают 3 минуты на подготовку ответа, затем высказывают свою точку зрения. Учитывается правильность, оригинальность и объем ответа.

All your answers were very good, I’ll give 10000 tenge to each firm.

Now you are going to receive an important official paper from our Ministry. Before this you must guess the meaning of the following words: industrialization, threat, to threaten, to deprive.

^ Каждая команда получает листок с объяснением значений данных слов на английском языке; как только они угадывают перевод слова, получают текст “The Problem of Ecology”. Команда, которая быстрее всех справляется с заданием, получает больше времени на работу с текстом.


Text. “The Problem of Ecology”.

Many people are concerned about ecology today because it is of vital importance for humanity. Everybody is talking about pollution nowadays: land pollution, water pollution, air pollutioun. The things we eat, the places we live in and the air around us are made dirty and unhealthy by machines and factories. Pollution is the result of industrialization and it threatens everything living: plants, animals, people. It is dangerous for life.

Pollution deprives people of fresh air, clear water and healthy food. The examples are numerous: the waters of the Aral Sea are polluted and it became much less than some years ago, the Caspian Sea becomes smaller too, people from Semey suffer from radioactivity.

International cooperation of scientists in environmental protection has already begun its work. People demand to stop bomb testing and arms race. They want to protect their future.
Now you have read the official paper. Answer the questions.

  1. What kinds of pollution are mentioned in the text?

  2. What is made dirty and unhealty by machines and factories?

  3. What is pollution? The result of what?

  4. Why is pollution so dangerous?

  5. What examples of pollution do you know?

  6. What do people want to do?

Your presidents will have to explain the problem of ecology to your clients (retelling the text).

Other members of your bank will think over some task. You should give an explanation to the given words so that other teams might guess them. You’ll be given 5000 tenge for the best guessing and 10000 tenge for the best explaining.

^ Каждая команда получает карточку с 3 словами.


Now another task. That is for your Advertizing Managers mostly. But other members may help them.

Your hometask- Projects: Your ANTI-POLLUTING PROGRAMME. What people should and what they shouldn’t do to protect our environment.

Это домашнее задание. Работа может быть выполнена в виде плаката с защитой, альбома, серии рисунков и т.д. Защита – в стихотворной или песенной форме, в форме рекламного ролика и т.д. Текст желательно скорректировать заранее, чтобы возможные ошибки в речи, в употреблении отдельных слов не препятствовали восприятию.

^ Пока выполняется задание, Secretaries готовятся к следующему конкурсу “The Best Secretary”. В этом конкурсе возможно использование плейеров с наушниками либо компьютеров с микрофонами. Учащиеся прослушивают текст диалога. Задание – передать прослушанное в косвенной речи (письменно или устно с записью на компьютер). Распечатка диалога прилагается.

^ THE DIALOGUE

The teacher of biology says, “Ecology is a new important science. It concerns everybody.”

Then he tells, “Ecology deals with the protection of environment, and everyone must know the general ideas of it.”

Asel asks him, “Teacher, how can we use it in practice?”

The teacher answers, “You can do many useful things. You can help to preserve plants and young trees, birds and animals. They need your help.”

Kate tells the teacher, “I agree with you, but many people don’t understand the importance of the problem. Even more, they do much harm to the environment.”

“That’s right”, says the teacher.
Here are fax – papers for you. They must be answered quickly but correctly.

Conclusion. We spoke much about ecology in the whole but we shan’t forget that the ecological situation in the country depends on the ecological situation in our place, our Small Motherland. Let’s think of our village, of our district. What should we do to improve ecology in our village? Give me your ideas.

Your hometask will be to write a short composition about the possible ways to improve the ecology in our village.

Results of the lesson.

All of you worked very well. But the best was the team of BANK … They earned … tenge.
